When is done done enough?
For nearly a year now I've been fiddling around with designing and developing a new portfolio site. Mainly my motivation in doing so is that I'm tired of getting emails every week to update my wordpress site, secondly I want to move off of shared hosting and either host from a VPN or use gitlab pages.
Update
It didn't take long but I did it; this site is now running on vue.js using vuepress. More to come on that!
While designing the site I've gone through so many different iterations. Initially I was really inspired by old school DOS style RPGs, specifically Caves of Qud which draws inspiration from games that are run in a command prompt.

I really liked the large chunky console style text and gray color palette but it didn't really fit with my work. I ended up lightening up the colors, added some eye melting yellow which has been a staple in my past portfolio sites for some reason and moved on to development.
The site is not nearly done, I don't think it ever will be. It's built on jekyll which I'm finding to be really easy to work with, but I'm not a huge fan of ruby and I'm told Hugo might be a better option, so attempting to port the site over to that is probably in my near future. Noodling with the design happens on a daily basis and ultimately this blog will probably gather dust, but I really enjoy the discovery process. Learning how to use new tools, encorporating the tools i know how to use; it's all exciting to me. I'm looking forward to the endless fiddling!
